Some visitor restrictions for all Health New Zealand | Te Whatu OraWaitaha Canterbury hospitals and health facilities remain in place, but we have relaxed others.
There is still a heightened risk to vulnerable people in hospital and we encourage all people wear a mask when visiting any of our facilities and follow other advice designed to keep patients, staff and visitors safe.
To keep everybody safe:
Visitors or support people are advised to not visit our facilities if they are unwell. We advise that you do not visit if you have recently tested positive for COVID-19 and haven’t completed your isolation period.
Patients may have more than one visitor, except in some situations such as multi-bed rooms where it can cause overcrowding.
Surgical/medical masks are encouraged to be worn at all sites. Masks will be provided if you don’t have one.
Please practice hand hygiene with provided alcohol-based hand rub/gel

Visiting patients with COVID-19
People can visit patients who have COVID-19 but they must wear a surgical mask as a minimum – please use surgical masks provided.

Visiting hours for our hospitals have returned to pre COVID-19 hours.
All visitors are encouraged to wear a medical face mask.
Parents/caregivers can be with their child in hospital and visitors are now allowed, except for the Children’s Haematology and Oncology Day stay where visitor restrictions might apply.

Human participant research: Activities which attempt to create new generalisable knowledge in response to an acknowledged information gap. Research requires locality and ethical approval – please register your project via the form options below
Quality Improvement activities: Activities which aim to improve healthcare by assessing current situation and systematically implementing/testing evidence-based knowledge within a local organisation. Quality Improvement does not require locality or ethical approval (unless tissue samples are involved) – please follow guidance from the Quality and Patient Safety Team for your service (see PRISM > Organisation; internal link)
Locality Application – you need to have an authorised locality to conduct health research using Health NZ Canterbury resources (patients, staff, data, physical facilities).
Please note: Locality approval and ethical approval are related but separate processes (see Ethics section on Research Support for more info)
Please select this option if Health NZ Canterbury will be a sub-site of a clinical trial hosted by another organisation (this includes other Health NZ regions)
Clinical Trial – commercial or collaborative trials hosted by Health NZ Canterbury. If the trial is hosted by a different organisation (this includes other Health NZ regions), please register a ‘Locality Application’ instead.
Funding Application – please register your application for funding at least two weeks before the funder’s due date. This time is required to obtain the necessary approvals and review your application prior to submission to the funder.
MOU, EOI, Subcontract – these are required when an external organisation wishes to collaborate with Health NZ Canterbury staff in the external organisation’s grant-funded project
